Sony's flexible OLED mockups

Publicada por SIDSIDSID On 16:56

Sony hasn't gotten very far along with these units -- they're really just plastic shells -- but we like we're they're headed with it. They showed off a full-screen laptop (pictured), bendable e-reader, and Walkman bracelet concepts, all based around flexible OLED technology and built with "flexible bioplastics," along with the flexible display that going to power them all when they hit the market... in the year 2000.

Cadeira Gamer: Emperor Game Workstation

Publicada por SIDSIDSID On 16:28

O Emperor Game Workstation foi apresentado na CES 2009, apesar de já ter aparecido na rede há um tempo atrás. É realmente uma impressionante "Work"station.

The Emporer Workstation is named after a particularly large species of scorpion - that's how they aliken the action of the the overhead tail/speaker system and the way it straps you in. For me though, it's all about the tripple screen and touchpad.

Don't think I'll be fitting this one into my flat in a hurry which is possibly part of the same reason I don't have the $40,000 lying around to buy one.

Arcade Pad para Street Fighter IV

Publicada por SIDSIDSID On 08:09

$150 — That’s what it will cost you to buy the officially licensed, Mad Catz-produced, S-kill and MarkMan-designed, Sanwa-inclusive, Capcom-approved “Street Fighter IV FightStick Tournament Edition” controller you see immediately above, on February 20th, 2009.

The official Street Fighter IV FightStick Tournament Edition controller for Sony PS3 was designed for fighting game fans to recreate the quality, gameplay and precision found in arcades. Using the exact Sanwa joystick and 30mm buttons found in official Street Fighter IV arcade machines, along with realistic spacing and an eight-button layout, the Street Fighter IV FightStick Tournament Edition brings the true arcade experience right into your home. With separate turbo settings for each button and the best components, prepare yourself for hours of competition, no quarters necessary.

That is, if any are left, when all you Street Fighter junkies hear the official description (after the jump) and realize you can preorder these puppies right now at Amazon.com and GameStop. According to the product listing, there are “very limited quantities available…”

Links, pictures, the five SFIV gamepads, and notable differences between the sticks are just a click away.

PS3 3D gaming

Publicada por SIDSIDSID On 19:00

At CES, Sony is reportedly showing off a highly impressive PS3 3D gaming demo. Sony noted that this is just an idea of what 3D would look like if Sony moved into it. Apparently, a demo of Wipeout HD was shown running in true 3D and it was so good that a couple of journalists believe it is the best demo of 3D technology ever experienced.

We've heard from many of you that 3D technology is something you're interested in seeing at CES, and Sony has one of the most impressive displays of 3D at their booth... but you won't learn anything about it.

"Don't get caught up with specs," the Sony representative told me. "We're not going to talk about specifications. This is just a look at what 3D could look like if Sony decided to move in this direction." The idea was just to show the technology to people, to see if they would be interested in sitting at home, wearing a dorky set of black glasses, watching content in 3D.

I couldn't pry details about how the 3D affect was achieved, or if the display could turn any source into 3D, but what's clear is that, glasses or no, the 3D affect is amazing. Sony showed off Wipeout HD running in true 3D, and I was ready to whip out my credit card right there. Frank and I both agreed, this was one of the best demos of 3D technology we have ever seen.
"3D has come a long way, hasn't it?" the representative asked me. Sure it has, but give me some details. We can't get excited if all the press gets is a short tech demo. The crowd around the display was large, and filled with "ooohs" and "aaaahs."

This probably won't be the last 3D display we see at CES, but as a proof of concept, our appetite is whetted. Sony claims that they have Gran Turismo Prologue playable on the display, but I just wanted to take one home. The company is hedging its bets about how long it will take to get this level of 3D into your home, but if this tiny taste was any indication, there is a ton of promise.

We're promised more 3D surprises from Sony's even larger press event tomorrow, so hopefully we'll get some more information.

SplitFish FragFX - o sonho dos batoteiros

Publicada por SIDSIDSID On 11:47

The FragFX for the PS3 is a rather solid product, and is one of the few alternative control options we've tested that has actually given us an advantage in gameplay. Coupled with the FragFX's capabilities as a normal mouse for the PlayStation Browser, we can easily recommend the controller to hardcore and casual FPS fans on the PlayStation 3. The FragFX will be shipping this month in two flavors: a wired model for $59.99 and a Bluetooth wireless version for $69.99.
