Let there be no doubt that the Playstation 3 really is top value for money - not just for now but for the next ten years. That’s the story according to a new statement from Sony.
True enough, the PS3 bundles in features that are either absent from or are additional extras to rival consoles. Indeed the PS3 can fairly claim built-in Wi-Fi, an 80gb hard drive, Blu-ray functionality, HDMI output and free online gaming right out of the box of its current entry-level model. In comparison the basic Xbox 360 ‘Arcade’ model would need numerous costly upgrades - the wi-fi dongle, 60gb hard drive and LIVE subscription - in order to offer the same services.
That would make the equivalent tooled-up 360 unit $50-$100 more expensive than the PS3, says Sony. Moreover, it still wouldn’t offer an HD movie output - although the upscaled regular DVD option is still more than decent. Meanwhile the (market-leading) Wii only has Wi-Fi to offer and its “lack of enhanced features comes at the expense of a comprehensive entertainment solution.” Well, that’s them told.
